The Cochrane Youth Association is committed to serving the youth both in Cochrane and within Rocky View County. By collaborating with youth, families, and professionals in the communities of Springbank, Beaupre, Westbrook, Bearspaw and Bragg Creek we are better able to identify and meet the needs of youth in these areas.
In 2007 the Cochrane Youth Association and Boys and Girls Club of Cochrane and Area conducted a survey of over 750 youth between the ages of 10-14 attending schools in rural Rocky View County. The results of this survey indicated that many youth travel to either Cochrane or Calgary to participate in activities and that there is a need for more youth and family activities in their own communities. Another finding indicated that youth are interested in more community events to participate in with their parents and adults in the community.
The Rural Youth and Families Strategy committee is one way that we are attempting to connect rural youth and families with the services available to them in their community. Our goals include building awareness of programs and services already available in each community, identifying the gaps that exist for youth and families and to collaboratively find ways to fill these gaps. If you are a member of an organization serving youth and would like to join our efforts in achieving these goals please contact us.
In order to effectively serve the youth and families in Rocky View County your input is very important to us. If you are a youth or family member who would like to have more say as to what is needed in your community, or if you would like to have more information as to what programs and services are available to you please contact us.
